SECRET AGENT GEL

WHO ARE YOU?

I'm Corey H Maass. I produce and DJ as Secret Agent Gel [http://secretagentgel.com] [http://myspace.com/secretagentgel] [http://myspace.com/gel44]. I do a monthly radio show on Sub.FM with BlackPlague called The Kids Are Bored [http://thekidsarebored.com] and we DJ out sometimes using that name. I run a digital label called Bass Tourist [http://basstourist.com] for anything I like really, tho mostly it's danceable music with a focus on basslines. I run a file distribution web site for DJ's and musicians called DubFiler [http://dubfiler.com].

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO LATELY?

Last month we released one of my tunes with Coppa on the vocals on my Bass Tourist label. London's Bok Bok did a killer remix. [http://www.basstourist.com/] I just had a remix come out on BlipSwitch - exclusive to Beatport until Aug 11 [https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/178133/Dark%20Tide%20Disco%202009].
Most of my time is spent working on DubFiler, tho - blog posts, promotion and adding new features.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE COMING UP?

I've got some new beats in the works. Watch for a couple more small releases this winter.

WHO SHOULD WE WATCH OUT FOR?

Mostly feeling some UK funky and specifically DJ's who are really mixing it up while keeping it dark but danceable. The Night Slugs crew from London [http://nightslugs.com], Kingdom from Brooklyn [http://www.myspace.com/kkingdomm], some dubstep folks like Kode9, oneman, some grime and funky folks like Roska and Marcus Nasty. WHAT ARE YOU FEELING RIGHT NOW?

Ableton Live, which is the center of my studio for production, DJing, everything, has upgraded to 8 and it's stellar. New features, new effects, new instruments (for me). Can't beat it.

I ride a Bajaj scooter, like a vintage Vespa, around Brooklyn and it's amazing. Easy trips to the park, the beach. It's the only way to get around in the summer. I haven't been on the train in a week.

A month ago I moved in with two cats. I'm not a cat person, but damn, they're great. Not as great as dogs, but I am definitely enjoying them. Anyone who's settled should go adopt a dog or a cat that needs a home.
